U.S. Army Medicine Civilian Corps Increases Hiring Efforts for Family Practice Physicians

July 25, 2015 – Fort Sam Houston, Texas – The U.S. Army Medicine Civilian Corps currently has several employment opportunities for family practice physicians to staff U.S. Army hospitals and facilities nationwide.

According to Dr. Joseph Harrison Jr., Chief of Recruitment and Retention for the U.S. Army Medicine Civilian Corps, “We’ve seen a growing need for additional primary care professionals to staff Army hospitals and clinics. We’re hiring in over a dozen states including Louisiana, Texas, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.”

To raise awareness about employment opportunities, the Civilian Corps is exhibiting at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri from July 30 – August 1.

According to Dr. Harrison Jr., “Many healthcare professionals don’t realize you can work for Army Medicine as a civilian. Civilian physicians work alongside their U.S. Army counterparts, but aren’t subject to military uniforms, enlistment or deployment.”

Civilians have been an essential part of the U.S. Army Medical Command since its beginning during the Revolutionary War. Now the Civilian Corps makes up approximately 60% of the Army Medical Command workforce, providing medical, dental and behavioral health care to Army soldiers, beneficiaries and their families.

Among the benefits enjoyed by employees of the Civilian Corps are comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance, paid federal holidays and competitive salaries.

“Army personnel, beneficiaries and their families are truly grateful for the care and attention they receive from Army Medicine civilians every day. With nearly 45,000 civilian team members, the Army Medicine workforce plays a huge role in serving our country by caring for our service members.”

The Civilian Corps currently has hundreds of open positions in more than 70 global locations. For more information and to search current job openings, please visit
